Sankara Nethralaya an excellent choice to execute your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
As an institution with a 40 year tradition of service to the poor and needy, a proud record of bringing the most advanced ophthalmic processes totally cost free to indigent patients, adopting a holistic approach of research and training endeavours to eliminating blindness, an institution which treats 40% of its patients totally cost free and has been consistently rated as the Nation’s N0-1 eye care institution, Sankara Nethralaya referred to as the ‘Temple of the eye’ becomes an excellent choice to fulfill your CSR.
We are sure that you would agree that there cannot be a more painful handicap than blindness and no greater suffering than being confined to a world of darkness, without being able to see one’s near and dear ones or the world around, leading a life of physical and economic dependence on family members and society. As an institution started with the avowed objective of fulfilling the social, moral and professional responsibility of eradicating blindness through advanced, exclusive eye care delivered with a human touch, Sankara Nethralaya becomes a great choice for both mid-size and large companies to execute their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Sankara Nethralaya was started by Dr SS.Badrinath a young vitreo-retinal surgeon of international repute who had returned to his motherland from the USA, to fill the wide gap between the need and availability of eye care in the country at a time when ophthalmic disorders were treated along with other ailments in a general hospital. It was started with the noble objective of providing world class eye care with a personal touch at nominal costs to paying patients and totally cost free to indigent patients without any disparity.
Sankara Nethralaya captures the true spirit of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as it was started with the generous support from society in the form of philanthropic individuals and corporate bodies who rose to the occasion to start an institution which would benefit society at large. Sankara Nethralaya is not only an excellent eye-care institution but also a major research center engaged in India centric research to find solutions for prevailing and emerging eye care challenges, it does collaborative research in the various areas of ophthalmic care with leading research institutions like IIT-Madras, BITS-Pilani, the Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University, SASTRA, University of Missouri, University of Melbourne and Deakin University. The benefits of such research translate directly in the quality of eye care provided to the patients.
As a service oriented institution started with the noble objective of reaching out quality eye care to the poor and needy Sankara Nethralaya treats 40% of its patients totally cost free. This includes patients caling at its various centres across the nation, patients screened at the outdoor community camps and on the spot cataract surgeries carried out at the ‘one of its kind in Asia’ mobile eye surgical unit (MESU). Patients found needing treatment at the outdoor eye screening camps are transported to the base hospital, provided food, shelter, treatment including surgery, medicines and dropped back at their village totally cost free. Sankara Nethralaya is the only eye care institution which performs cataract surgeries right at the door step of the patients, through the Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) a medico-engineering marvel, an operation theatre on wheels developed jointly with the IIT-Madras. The MESU takes the most advanced cataract removal surgery through phaco-emulsification which is on par with the most advanced cataract surgery available in a modern eye care institution, totally cost free to the most socially and economically backward people with very low awareness levels living in the most remote, inaccessible regions of the country including hilly, tribal pockets not served by the most basic Medicare, people who would not be able to avail eye care even if it is provided cost free in a base hospital, due to several reasons. Supporting the MESU’s operations gives a new meaning to your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by enabling the best eye care to reach out to the most remote regions of the country and benefit the most economically and socially backward sections of society.
A salient feature of Sankara Nethralaya’s cost free community service is that the same quality of treatment is given to both paying and non paying patients, there is no difference in the waiting time to consult the doctor or undergo tests and all patients are treated equally, which makes it your best choice for your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. While most eye care institutions confine their cost free eye care initiatives to performing a given number of cataract surgeries, Sankara Nethralaya performs the most complex and challenging ophthalmic processes including surgeries for retinal detachments, glaucoma and retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye) totally cost free.
Sankara Nethralaya is a transparent, low overhead, socially conscious institution. Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives executed through it demonstrate visible results and benefits and hence it is the preferred choice of small and large corporate bodies from a diverse background to fulfill their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). We gratefully acknowledge the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contribution of our esteemed donors below which has sustained and brought us to our present level. |
